Don't show the world your email address book

How often do you see an email that shows lots of other people's email addresses at the top of the message? In the screenshot below, we are preparing an email to be sent to lots of people.

All our addresses have been added to the Cc field (Carbon copy). Anyone who now receives this email can see all the other email addresses and they can add them to their own address book.

Use the Bcc field

It's easy to hide these addresses. Look at the email below which is ready to be sent:

We have added all our recipients to the Bcc (Blind carbon copy) field, not the Cc field.

How to show the Bcc field

If your Outlook / Outlook Express message does not show a Bcc field at present, follow the instructions below to show it.

1. Open a new message in Outlook / Outlook Express
2. Click on the word View at the top of the message screen
3. In the dropdown box, click on All headers
4. Now you will see that the Bcc bar has been added and you can type all the addresses into this bar and/or select them from the address book.

Email addresses now secure

It's as easy as that. Addresses that you added to the Bcc field are hidden in the copy of the email received by each of your customers.
